The Montessori Cultural Passport

Welcome to the Montessori Cultural Passport

The Montessori Cultural Passport is a new initiative designed exclusively for the families of The Montessori Schools, Flatiron & SoHo.

Building on our beloved annual tradition of Peter and the Wolf at the Guggenheim, the Passport provides curated opportunities to experience New York City’s world-class arts and culture in ways not typically available to the public.

Through this program, our families enjoy insider access to ballet, opera, contemporary dance, theater, fine art, and even culinary performances — all designed to celebrate creativity and deepen our community connections.

Signature Cultural Experiences

Each year, we gather as a community to experience unforgettable works of art and performance:

  • Peter and the Wolf at the Guggenheim Museum (Annual Family Event)
  • Contemporary dance premieres and behind-the-scenes artist conversations
  • Curated culinary journeys blending food, performance, and storytelling

These moments extend the Montessori spirit beyond the classroom, inviting our families to explore the wonder of human creativity together.

How It Works

  • Events are curated and announced throughout the year.
  • Families receive invitations via email with RSVP details.
  • Some evenings are parent-only, while others are designed for the whole family.

Our goal is to create experiences that bring our parent community closer while opening doors to New York’s most exciting cultural spaces.

Upcoming Experiences

Each season, the Montessori Cultural Passport opens doors to unforgettable cultural experiences across New York City. From ballet and opera to fine art and culinary performances, these events are curated to give our families insider access to the very best our city has to offer.

Past Highlights

Private Tour of Rashid Johnson: A Poem for Deep Thinkers – Guggenheim Museum
Our parent community enjoyed an intimate, after-hours tour of Rashid Johnson: A Poem for Deep Thinkers at the Guggenheim Museum. Johnson — one of today’s leading contemporary artists and a former Flatiron parent — is known for his deeply expressive work exploring identity, history, philosophy, and personal narrative across a wide range of media. This exclusive evening offered Montessori parents the rare opportunity to experience the exhibition in the quiet of the closed museum, guided by Guggenheim educators who shared meaningful insights into Johnson’s creative process and artistic influences.

"It was such a treat to have the museum to ourselves and learn from an expert. Looking forward to exploring something new with the group again soon." -Semhal Araya

An Evening at NYCB 2025 – New York City Ballet
The evening began with a private dinner at The Smith Lincoln Square, hosted by recently retired NYCB Soloist Megan LeCrone, who shared stories of life on stage and insights into The Goldberg Variations and Tchaikovsky Suite No. 3. After dinner, parents enjoyed a breathtaking performance at Lincoln Center, and had the opportunity to speak to one of the performers after the ballet.

"The ballet was truly one of the most breathtaking performances I’ve ever seen. The solo pianist accompanying the dancers was absolutely extraordinary. Having the chance to meet Megan LeCrone and gain first-hand insight into the dedication, discipline, and artistry behind the performance made the experience even more meaningful. " -Tara Emrani

Peter and the Wolf since 2014 – Guggenheim Museum
For over a decade, families have gathered at the Guggenheim for a special presentation of Peter and the Wolf, only for families at The Montessori Schools. The performance is narrated and directed by Isaac Mizrahi, with choreography by John Heginbotham and music performed by Carnegie Hall’s Ensemble Connect under the baton of Michael P. Atkinson.

This cherished tradition has given children and parents alike an unforgettable introduction to the magic of music and dance, creating lasting memories and building anticipation for each new season.

"I’m so grateful to Nick and the Montessori Cultural Passport program for this incredible opportunity—and I can’t wait to take part in many more."  - Tara Emrani

"My wife and I truly cherished this extraordinary experience." -Johnnie Fan
